I've always been a big believer in the saying "Act like a lady, and you'll be treated like one."
Most of the women in our society today have thrown the art of being a lady under the bus in the name of being an "independent women", or having a good time. In our culture, we women have embraced acting cheaply and lowly. It's looked upon favorably to rebel against anything normal.
I think it's important to realize that being a lady, isn't to be snotty or arrogant. It's not just something of years past, or the lectures of our grandmothers...it's a way of thinking which gives us self-respect and dignity. It's an attitude and mindset of grace which sets us apart in even the lowest of situations.
To be a lady is to be humble, yet confident...refined, yet not afraid to get dirty. Being a lady is acting like you're worth something, and always seasoning your words with salt. It's hugging your family, even in front of your friends. It's letting men open doors for you; not because you can't, but because you allow them to. It's sitting up straight, and having grace in the most taxing of situations.
This is being a lady.
So c'mon girls. Join with me and let's challenge ourselves to be more than what the culture expects from us.
Let's be ladies!
